Groups and teams

Since childhood, the little man has been part of different groups. As it could be concluded that he succeeded, it is assessed whether he fit in among his peers. This continues through further education, so at some point, we begin to evaluate ourselves through the same. In order to really feel that we have succeeded, we need luck first of all. Encounters in which we leave our little world of peace and imagination and join someone, creating a team or group. Then we call it friendship, which can sometimes last for a short time, a long time, or at least mark us in a pleasant memory. Because together we were stronger, we learned from others, we grew and became adults. With our inner world influenced by our environment, we became the people we are today.

As such, adults, we find ourselves again in the middle of various groups. We also work and try to achieve the best. These new groups are called teams, and most often we do not choose them ourselves. Previously unknown individuals, connected by knowledge, try to achieve a common goal. How can they succeed in this?

Regarding that Patrick Lencioni says: "Great teams do not hold back with one another. They are unafraid to air their dirty laundry. They admit their mistakes, their weaknesses, and their concerns without fear of reprisal."

In addition, in one of his books, he lists five dysfunctions that a team must overcome in order to function successfully thereafter. It's about:

  • Absence of Trust

  • Fear of Conflict.

  • Lack of commitment

  • Avoidance of Accountability

  • Inattention to results

Each team faces a big task, to build trust, engage in constructive conflict, ensure commitment, ensure accountability and focus on results. Together with a great leader, joint success depends on each member. Will we achieve power or weakness?
